Hell is a spoken word symposium..

I spent Saturday at Tate Modern attending a symposium for artists who work with the spoken word – it sounded really interesting – as I like to put narrative into objects – so I paid me money and off I went.

It was freezing in the auditorium and well, I have learnt not to say things that I don’t understand are rubbish, so it wasnt rubbish, but my God I didnt understand it. I mean I get the TUMB type of Futurist onomatopoeia and I love Surrealism but to me noise is noise is noise. I can only compare my limited understanding of what I saw to watching someone painstakingly stick together three billion matchsticks but the over all experience when its is all put together is not an art piece but a really ugly thing and every one just keeps talking about how clever its construction was….it HURT my ears so badly I had to leave…..no offence but its just not my bag.. I mean one man played 8,000 collected and cut syllables that he had rearranged – it went on and on on and on and all I could think of was Guy DuBord and his film “Hurlements” when he locked his audience in the auditorium and played them a film to drive them nuts…

I must say though that my son, who knows I have a VERY limited tolerance for grating music, was in hysterics when I got in when I played his the clip of Tomomi dancing – we both thought he was real funny….

The Day The SOMO died…

All Wired up and ready for action....

Spent a great afternoon with Ben working on the SOMO.. it was all so simple I began to wonder what makes these Geeks so geeky..then without warning just as we were packing up the fully functioning kit… it DIED. I mean just stopped working and has officially gone to chip heaven…

Been on some forums and picking brains and general consensus is some sort of short or power issues…mmmmm…..

How can making things be such pleasure?
